The history of Bohemian glassware dates several centuries back to Switzerland during the Middle Ages. At that time the family Rueckl produced glass in the area of St. Gallen and later moved to Bohemia. The glass master Jan Rueckl founded his firm in Cyranuv Ostrov in 1846. His son Anthony established three new ones in 1903 and one of them was Nižbor.

The firm produced hollow glass of all kinds, lead crystal glass and typical Bohemian crystal as well as colored crystal glass for the Czech market and export.

World War II interrupted the trade of the company and after the war the rest of the company was nationalized and became a state monopoly until 1992.

Today, the Rueckl family owns the factory once again.

The tour takes approximately 50 minutes, you will see all sections of glass making.

The glass blowers will explain and show you how to work with glass and you can try the blowpipes on your own.

There is a shop in the factory where you can buy glass souvenirs.
